Dr. Raad Azzawi

Associate Professor (Instruction) of structural engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA)

Dr. Azzawi is an associate professor (Instruction) of structural engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).  Besides his Ph.D. in structural engineering, he holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in projects Finance and Investment from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has been teaching various graduate and undergraduate courses in structural engineering and construction management. His research interests include seismic behavior of structural systems, SFRC hollow columns under large eccentricity, concrete breakout strength of anchors within FRC, utilizing GFRP bars in bridge decks, composite steel girders encased in FRC, utilizing expanded polystyrene (EPS) units as insulating concrete form (ICF) construction system, small to large scale experimental testing of reinforced concrete. Dr. Azzawi is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and American Wood Council (AWC). He was the recipient of the Outstanding Civil Engineering Teaching Award at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2020. He has served on several technical committees including ABET at UTA. He is the author of many publications and has been advising more than 20 graduate students.
